Ball State Grad Returns to Campus for Motivational Commencement Ceremony Speech
MUNCIE, Ind.—Former widely known Ball State University Department of Journalism grad student with a degree in event planning, Erica Coleman, was the main speaker at this year’s class of 2034 commencement ceremony. Held at 2 p.m. on May 20, 2034 at Ball State’s Emens Auditorium, Coleman offered the graduating class words of encouragement and motivation.
Coleman had always struggled with her future. She came into Ball State University as a Sports Administration major—something she later determined didn’t line up with her career interests. In fear of spending her sophomore year as an undeclared major student, she blindly threw herself into journalism and public relations, having no idea what to expect. Going through most of college confused has lead her to share her success story with students who may be feeling the same way—even on their graduation day. Now owning her own event planning business, Kappa Events, Coleman hopes to motivate today’s young adults who may be struggling.
“I was never certain as to what I wanted to do in terms of a real career. I was ultimately scared of life after college and had no idea what to expect” said Coleman.
Coleman’s supervisor, Amanda Morgan, explains that “Erica has definitely worked her way up from the bottom. You can see that she has a real passion for the work that she is doing and I think it’s great that she wants to share her story.”
